Monkeys have been known as to be referring to people from Northern England. The possibly derrogatory term 'Northern Monkeys' is in contrast with another coloquilism 'Southern Fairies' denoting the difference in cultures between northern and southern England. When a northerner travels a lot and lives in the south of england for a while the difference in people and cultures is palpable. Having a view from a height has its advantages and disadvantages. There is also an large element of humour in this painting whilst also a social commentary. I can use humour as a coping strategy as well as to create my own enjoyment and enjoyment in those that view my painting.
